New Single Origin Ethiopia Guji Kercha

Ethiopia is the birthplace of coffee and is the native home of the Coffea Arabica plant. Grown in an area that has traditionally processed coffee using a natural (dry) method, the quality of this washed coffee is exceptional. Because of growing conditions and other environmental factors, these coffees have a tendency toward floral and fruity aromas, and our new 2017 Limited Edition Ethiopia Guji Kercha lives up to this reputation.      This new Single Origin coffee is an example of Ethiopian coffee at its best. A gentle coffee with sweet and complex undertones, you'll experience notes of green melon,...

Barrel Aged Single Origin: Peru Condor Puna

Last year Master Roaster Emanuele Bizzarri hand-selected the Peru Condor Puna coffee while visiting Peru. Grown at a high altitude between 1,300 - 1,800 meters in the Quillabamba Province in the Cusco region of Peru, this coffee is generally sweeter and of higher quality than coffees grown at lower altitudes. We had the honor of being the first to offer this unique light roast in the United States last summer. This September it returns as part of our limited edition Barrel Aged Single Origin program. This Barrel Aged Peru coffee is cured for two months in American oak whiskey barrels from Woodinville distillery – they were...

Introducing Our New Single Origin from Rwanda

After cupping dozens of varietals from all over the world,  we are pleased to introduce our 2017 limited edition Mono Origine coffee from Rwanda. Grown in Rwanda’s northern province of Gekenke by the Rwanda Hingakawa Women’s Association, the Caffè Umbria team was inspired by both the flavor of the coffee and the hardworking women who produce it. We shared the story  of the growers and the region earlier this month, if you missed it.  Rwandan coffee is known for possessing a balance of bright and creamy notes, floral aromas and a medium acidity. Coming Soon: Rwanda Single Origin Grown by Hingakawa Women's Association

In honor of Women’s History Month, and International Women’s Day (March 8) we’re featuring the producers of our soon-to-be-released Single Origin coffee. Grown in the northern province of Gekenke, the Rwanda Hingawkawa is a premium lot grown by a group of women who have organized themselves as the Hingawkawa Women’s Association. In Kinyarwanda, Hingakawa means “let’s grow coffee”.   The Hingakawa Women's Association is part of the Abakundakawa Cooperative, a fair-trade farmers group whose name translates to “those who love coffee”, and produces some of the finest coffees in Rwanda. Established by 180 members in 2004, it has grown to almost...
