Fifteen years ago today, we opened our roastery on Airport Way in Seattle with a 30 kg roaster and a dream to share our coffee blends with as many people as possible.
In those first months, Caffè Umbria co-owners handled all aspects of the business: Emanuele Bizzarri roasted about 2,000 pounds of coffee per month, and together with Jesse Sweeney, they packaged and shipped every bag of coffee that Pasquale Madeddu sold.
Today, we roast over 1 million pounds of coffee per year and ship to customers across the United States, Canada, China and our four cafés from our fully-automated, state-of-the-art, 22,000 square foot roastery in South Park. Emanuele can still be found behind the scenes, roasting coffee.
As we begin our fifteenth year in business, we would like to extend a sincere grazie mille to our Caffè Umbria family - all of our colleagues and customers who have shared this exciting journey with us. Without you, we wouldn't be here.
We're excited to grow our team, and bring our coffee to new neighborhoods across the country. Stay tuned for an announcement about new café openings coming this year, and be sure to read about our new Portland Training Lab.
